Kartini Series

Every few quarters, Du Anyam releases new collections to keep the catalog fresh and relevant. For Q1 2025, the team expanded the existing batik line, one of the best-selling categories of 2024, introducing new colorways and updated patterns while keeping the original designs in production.

Inspired by the spirit of R.A. Kartini, the collection features batik patterns Sulur Daun, Kawung, and Truntum, symbolizing growth, balance, and resilience. The specific combination was also chosen for its production practicality, allowing the fabric to be cut cleanly without the motif looking misaligned on the final product.

As part of the design team, Abdur researched batik options matching the creative direction set by the design lead, and compiled pattern and color options for review and approval.

Behind the Design

The Kartini Series was a collaborative decision across the design team, with input from other divisions in the company. The brief was to expand the existing batik line with new colorways and patterns, while keeping the original designs in production.

Black was a deliberate choice, we wanted something that felt unisex, elegant, and corporate appropriate, so it could appeal to a wider audience beyond just a seasonal collection. For the patterns, we landed on Sulur Daun, Kawung, and Truntum, each carrying its own symbolism of growth, balance, and resilience.

Because we had a very specific vision for the color and pattern combination, we ended up going custom with the batik. The pattern selection was also practical, the scale and structure of each motif allowed the fabric to be cut cleanly without the design looking misaligned on the final product.

The collection name itself came last, we only decided on "Kartini Series" after seeing the final sample, and honestly it just felt right once everything came together.
